Korean New year's day.

I'll inform you that Korean New Year's Day.


New year's day is called 'seol' or 'seol ral'Koreans celebrate the Lunar New Year. It's a very important holiday."Seol"means 'to be careful', and some says that it means sadness.Therefore Seol isn't only a happy day. Everything to be careful form Seol.


Let's see what Koreans do in the morning of "seolral" .Very early in the morning they take a bath and put the "solbim" on.Solbim is new clothes, prepared to wear on seolnal. Usually it is the traditional custome, han bok.And then Koreans perform a New Year’s bow. It's called Sebe (which is the first greeting to the elders of the year)The New Year's greeting is "Many New year's blessings to you!"
After bow, one's elder give money and well wishing remarks to childrenIf so children put money in a lucky bag.Lucky bag means it brings people good luck


These offerings in holidays are called "chare" because it is served with liquors and teas. So women get busy preparing the food from the previous day.


There is a lot to eat on Korean holidays.The most representative dish for New Year 's day is ttokkuk.Ttokkuk has two means. First of all, it means you are getting one year older.When you have a dish of ttokkuk you are one year older.Nowadays we eat ttokkuk any day of the year but in the past it was only on New Year's day.Second, another name for ttokkuk are: "byung tang", which means a broth made of rice cake.Ttokkuk on solnal is also to wish for a year without illnesses.

There are some playing. that's Kite flying, seesawing and yut game. Yut game is probably the most popular among them.Yut is one of the traditional Korean games that can be played anywhere.
